Dear Ishees across America!
I'm sad to have missed the reunion, it sounded like a blast, so you'll just have to post lots of pictures on here! Sadly, I'm packing up and getting ready to leave Berlin, which means I have just a few more days to do lots of things. The three things at the top of my last-week-agenda here are:
1.Going to the abandoned amusement park in East Berlin. It's full of broken ferris wheels and also huge Soviet monuments.
2. Going to the Brauerai in Charlottenberg and doing a beer tasting.
3. Since this city has turned me into a painter, I am going to go to the villa where Max Lieberman (German painter from 19th century) lived and made hundreds of oil paintings. I am gonna go sit and do hundreds of watercolors!
I'll post some pictures when I get home.
Well, the other reason I am posting on here ATTENTION NEW YORK ISHEES, is that I am actually flying into New York and will be there all of next weekend, and hope that maybe if you guys are around and with some time, we could hang out a bit. I still haven't been introduced to the newest members of the family!
So if anybody reads this in the next couple days just let me know and I'll find a way to get to you.
Hope everybody's summer was great!

Tee Shirts
Hello All-- T hoped to give out his business' Waters Edge Tee shirts to people who wanted them, during the reunion. Unfortunately he forgot. They are adult size large, in different colors, with the company logo. If anyone wants a shirt, email me with your mailing address, and we'll get one to you. He has about 5 or 6 available.

reunion: cooking & cleaning teams
So I had this thought that for the reunion it would be good to try to distribute cooking and cleaning responsibilities more or less equally among the participants. My suggested plan is that we presume that there will be one big shared meal each day that we're there, and that a team of 4-5 people should be responsible for cooking or cleaning each day.
To that end, I divided everyone up into cooking and cleaning teams for the days Sunday through Friday (assuming that both Saturdays will be too hectic to get everyone all together). I tried to account for people leaving early, to the extent that I'm aware of your plans. I also tried to make sure that no one cooks with any person who is also on his or her cleaning team; that the teams include people from different immediate families, people of different generations, and those who do not see each other often; that no one cooks and cleans on the same day; and no team has more than one person under age 16.
We can figure out later what time of day is most practical for a group meal, and people are welcome to trade teams if they've got other activities on a particular day; I assume that once we're all there it will be easy to negotiate such trades. If I've included anyone who isn't coming, or failed to include anyone who is coming, please let me know. People age 2 and under are exempt.
So... drumroll please... here's the chart:
Sunday cooks: Big Rae, Megan, Terra, Cameron
Sunday cleaners: Tom, Nell, Derek, Sonia
Monday cooks: Cary, Reuben, Andy, Isaac, Nell
Monday cleaners: Granny, Megan, Pam, Miguel
Tuesday cooks: Stephen, Derek, Tamara, Heather
Tuesday cleaners: Jane, Reuben, Terra, Carroll
Wednesay cooks: Granny, Stu, Carroll, T
Wednesday cleaners: Tamara, Stephen, Andy, Sadie
Thursday cooks: Pam, Tom, Heather, Olmy
Thursday cleaners: Stu, Little Rae, Big Rae, Isaac
Friday cooks: Sadie, Sonia, Miguel, Jane
Friday cleaners: Cary, Olmy, Little Rae, T, Cameron
Like I said, this is just a starting point and you are all welcome to trade teams at will, sort of like family reunion draft day. I just thought it would be good to go into the week with a bit of a plan in place. If anyone has special dishes they'd like to cook, don't forget to bring your recipes!
Love, Sadie

logistics
Anyone have insights about the best way to get to the reunion from here in the Northeast? Specifically, does it make more sense to fly into one of the closer airports (Jacksonville or New Berne) even though there are no direct flights & it means changing planes, plus is a bit more expensive? Is the extra distance to Raleigh-Durham significant? I'm likely to be flying down with Bea but without Stu, so convenience is a big factor. How have other people solved this problem?
PS- I was checking flights from both New York & Boston, because Stu will likely be flying from Boston. Kayak.com had some very good deals, if anyone is looking.

Hi from Brooklyn!
Willoughby St. to be exact, since that's where everyone in this photo will live in one week. Friday was Nola's second birthday and this shot is from her party.
I'm so excited to see everyone else in the clan soon. Derek has to work in Vermont at the end of the reunion week, so we're still trying to decide if we'll drive down, as we had originally planned, or fly, and how long we'll be able to stay. It won't feel like long enough no matter what!

Thanks to Sadie!
Just wanted to post that I'm finally able to access the blog, and am very grateful (and amazed) that Sadie was able to put it together. Tom and I will be on the Island for the whole week. and are enthusiastic about helping out on a team to get a meal together. We don't have a camera, but sure appreciate photos from those of you who do!
We'll be watching!

email addresses
Hey Sadie,
This sounds like a great idea. Mom's email address is jishee@cableone.net and I don't have an individual one for Tom but you can send to jato@cableone.net as they both use that one. Today is Mom's birthday - Happy Birthday Jane!
We have not yet bought our tickets but are planning on going for the whole week. I like the idea of task sharing for big meals together. You can sign Matthew and I up for any day(s).
Time for a diaper change!

hello
Hi everyone-
I thought that this would be a way for us all to keep in touch around organizing family reunion logistics- and also just in general. If you are reading this, I assume that you got the invite and found the site. I have never blogged before & am not sure I set everything up correctly, but if it works as it is supposed to, you should all be able to post comments & pictures & anything else here on this site.
I did not have email addresses for all the extended Ishee clan, and some of those I did have may be out of date. Please, if anyone has email addresses for Jane, Tom, Olmy, Cameron, Carroll, Isaac, Pascale, Heather or Megan-- or more current addresses for anyone else-- pass along so that they can be included.
So, welcome!
And as long as you're here, I have some logistical questions for the group:
First: What dates will everyone be attending the reunion?
Second: I had an idea that maybe we could plan on one big meal per day that everyone would try to be at, with different teams of cooks each day-- strategically planned to give people a chance to hang out with family members they don't see as much . Would everyone be up for that?
That's all for now. I'm tired tonight, but I encourage you all to post photos and/or more entertaining anecdotes that will make us all want to keep coming back.
Lots of love-
Sadie
