logistics

Anyone have insights about the best way to get to the reunion from here in the Northeast? Specifically, does it make more sense to fly into one of the closer airports (Jacksonville or New Berne) even though there are no direct flights & it means changing planes, plus is a bit more expensive? Is the extra distance to Raleigh-Durham significant? I'm likely to be flying down with Bea but without Stu, so convenience is a big factor. How have other people solved this problem?

PS- I was checking flights from both New York & Boston, because Stu will likely be flying from Boston. Kayak.com had some very good deals, if anyone is looking.

The easiest thing is to fly into New Bern. That involves one plane change in Charlotte. The gates are usually a bit far apart, at opposite ends of the airport, but if you have a stroller it won't be hard. New Bern is an easy 60 minute drive to Harkers Island. The Raleigh airport is about 3 1/2 hours away. Jacksonville, NC is about 2 hours away. I'd really urge you to do New Bern, and we're happy to make trips picking people up if you don't want to bother renting a car.

I have a logistics question about driving 12 hrs with a toddler. It turns out that Derek and I both have work obligations that will force us to leave on Wednesday. Since we'll be traveling together, we've decided just to drive. So far the consensus seems to be that we should drive over night so Nola will be sleeping the whole time. Any other thoughts? Also, we might try to head down on Friday night, arriving early Sat. Will other people be be arriving that early?
